Crochet Spiderman

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've made a post. It's been a busy and tough time, but I'm going to try and post more often.

I've been working on a new pattern for my crochet comic book(and some gaming) characters, it's been a long process but I'm so happy with the result :). When I first made most of my crochet characters I only had a basic pattern and didn't write down any of the details(color changes, accessories), so I decided to update the pattern I was using and also write the patterns for each character individually.

I'm starting with the more recent addition, Spiderman. I received a request for the pattern and since I didn't have one written down, I decided to make one.
Old and new crochet spiderman

I used a 3.75mm hook

Round 7:   Single crochet in back loops row

Round 8-17:   Single crochet for 10 rows

Round 18:   Single crochet in the next stitch, decrease, single crochet in the next stitch, decrease, continue like this for the row

(Eyes

Magic ring(6st), Ch 1, turn, 2 single crochet in each st--** I always place the eyes on the opposite side of my stitch marker, that way any color transitions will be at the back

Round 19:   Single crochet 2 together around for the row

Start adding stuffing gradually as you go

Start of body

Round 19:   Single crochet row

Round 20:   Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase in the next, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase in the next, continue like this for the row

Round 21-22:   Single crochet for 2 rows, **(see note)**

join blue yarn(but do not cut off red yarn)

Round 23:   Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase in the next, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase in the next(switch back to red yarn), single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase, single crochet in the next 2 stitches(switch back to blue), increase, continue in this pattern for row with blue yarn(please note that the spots where you switch colored yarn depends on the placement of the eyes, you want the red to be centered on the chest)

Round 24:   Start round with blue yarn, single crochet in the next 8 stitches(or right up to the last blue of the last round), switch to red yarn, single crochet in the next 6 stitches, switch back to blue yarn, single crochet in the next 10 stitches, repeat this row 2 more times**

**Note: If you're not comfortable switching from red to blue so much within the same rounds simply(from **to **) Ch 16, single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each st(15st)

Ch 1, turn, single crochet in each st(15st), repeat another 2 times, sew rectangle onto body(covering middle back and sides)

Round 25-26:   Using red yarn, Single crochet in the next 2 rows, switch to blue yarn

Round 27:   Single crochet in the next 3 stitches, single crochet 2 together(decrease), single crochet in the next 3 stitches, decrease, continue like this for the row

Place a different color piece of yarn through the front and back of the last round, this marks the separation of the legs

Round 28:   Make sure the use another stitch marker to mark where the first round of the first leg begins, Single crochet around for the row, make sure not to go past the center marker which separates the legs

Note: The most important part to remember when making the legs is to start both legs with the same amount of stitches(mine were 9 st each)

Round 29-30:   Single crochet for 2 more rows

Round 31:   Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 32:   Single crochet for 2 rows

Round 33:   Decrease row

Slip stitch into the next stitch, sew closed

Repeat the same pattern for the second leg, join yarn, then begin at round 28. If there is a space between both legs, sew closed. (I like to find a spot in the body to pull the yarn through(once done sewing the leg ends closed) and knot both yarn ends then hide the knot in the body).

Boots

Round 1:   Using red yarn, Ch 6, single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in the next 3 stitches, single crochet 3 times in the first chain.

Now working on the other side of the chain, single crochet in the next 4 stitches, single crochet 2 times in the next stitch
Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning next round

Round 2:   Single crochet in the next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, single crochet in the next 6 stitches

Round 3:   Single crochet row

Round 4:   Single crochet in the next 4 stitches, decrease 3 times, single crochet in the next 6 stitches

Round 5:   Single crochet in the next 3 stitches, decrease twice, single crochet in the next 6 stitches, switch to white yarn

Round 6-7:   Single crochet for 2 rows

Use black craft thread(or yarn) to create spider web designs on the boots before sewing them on the legs. I sew them on as I find it easier, but they can be removable boots also.

Arms

Round 1:   With red yarn, Magic ring(6st)

Round 2-10:   Single crochet for 9 rows

Make 2, sew onto body

Under arms

Ch 4, single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each st(3st)

Ch 1, turn, single crochet in each st(3st)

Make 2, sew onto under arm

Sew arms onto body

Starts sewing in spider web detail on all red parts of Spiderman's suit using either black craft thread or yarn

Chest Spider symbol

With black yarn, Ch 6, single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each st(5st)

I sewed this piece on the the body as the body of the spider symbol, use extra black yarn to sew in the legs

Back Spider Symbol

The spider symbol on the back of Spiderman's costume is usually smaller than that in the front, at least in most comics, though the costumes differ from comic to comic as well as in the movies

Magic ring(6st)

sew onto back, sew legs with extra red yarn

All done!
