Basic Crochet Character Doll- Pattern

I've been working on the basic pattern for my crochet character doll, which I used for my comic book characters. I have two different patterns that I use, one is a straight leg doll in which the head, body and legs are worked continuously, in the second pattern the legs and arms are worked separately.
  I decided to start with the straight leg version;

I wanted the doll to be fairly large(8.5 inches in length) so I used a 5.00mm hook, if you want one that is smaller I suggest using a 3.75mm hook which is what I used for my Hulk and Captain America dolls.

Head/body
Round 1-   Magic ring(6 st)
Round 2-   2 single crochet in each st(12st)

Round 3-   2 single single crochet in each st(24st)
Round 4-   Single crochet in next 3 st, 2 single crochet in the next(increase), single crochet in the next 3 stitches, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 5-   Single crochet in next 4 stitches, 2 single crochet in the next(increase), single crochet in the next 4 stitches, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 6-   Single crochet in next 5 stitches, 2 single crochet in the next(increase), single crochet in the next 5 stitches, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 7-   Single crochet in the back loops for 2 rows
Round 8-15-   Single crochet for 8 rows
Round 16-   Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, single crochet 2 together in the next(decrease), single crochet in the next 2 stitches, decrease, continue like this for the row

Fasten eyes where desired, I used 15mm safety eyes due to the size of the doll
Round 17-   Single crochet in the next stitch, single crochet 2 together in the next(decrease), single crochet in the next stitch, decrease, continue like this for the row

Round 18-   Single crochet in the next stitch, single crochet 2 together in the next(decrease), single crochet in the next stitch, decrease, continue like this for the row(for a smaller body, make this a decrease row[all decrease throughout the row])
Start stuffing the head

Round 19-   Single crochet row

Round 20-   Single crochet in the next stitch, increase in the next, single crochet in the next stitch, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 21-22-   Single crochet for 2 rows
Round 23-   Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase in the next, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 24-28-   Single crochet for 5 rows

Round 29-   Single crochet in the next 3 stitches, decrease, single crochet in the next 3 stitches, decrease, continue like this for the row
Use a different colored piece of yarn through the middle(front and back)to mark where the legs are separated, single crochet through both sides at the center to start the first leg
Round 30-32-   Single crochet around for 3 rows, continue stuffing gradually
Round 33-   Single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase, single crochet in the next 2 stitches, increase, continue like this for the row

Round 34-   Single crochet row

Round 35-   Decrease row

Slip stitch in the next stitch, cut off yarn, sew leg closed(I used a whip stitch through the front loops and pulled closed)
Continue with the next leg, join yarn and crochet the same as the first leg, just make sure that each leg is made up of the same amount of stitches(Mine were 11 stitches each)
Use the tail of one of the legs to sew the opening between the legs shut, then weave in all ends
Arms
Slip stitch onto body where you want the arms,

Single crochet in a circle, 8 stitches for both arms(if you want the arms to be larger, increase the amount of stitches you began with for each arm)
Single crochet around for 5 rows, or until desired length

whip stitch in all front loops and pull to tighten, weave in ends

Do the same for the other arm

This pattern is easily adjustable, you can add detail like clothes or incorporate the details as you crochet the doll by joining/changing colors as you crochet.

I will post the alterations for this pattern which I used for my Batman, Hulk and Captain America, in the near future! I have high hopes to be able to upload some video tutorials on You Tube soon as well!

I hope this pattern was helpful :)

                                                                              Sincerely,
                                                                               Evelyn
